Each Spring semester, the NDSU Welcome Week Committee accepts
applications for Welcome Week Kick-Off Leaders to serve as
resources and familiar contacts for new students during their first
week on campus during the Fall semester by leading them to various
Welcome Week events, such as Club NDSU, the President's Welcome,
and many others!
Q: What is the time commitment for Welcome Week Kick-Off
Leaders?
A: Kick-Off Leaders are asked to return to campus by the Friday
prior to Opening Weekend for training and will be helping lead
students to events from the Saturday of Opening Weekend throughout
the first week of school. The events during the week generally do
not conflict with classes. See the application packet (available
Spring 2010) for a full list of dates.
Q: What are the benefits of being a Kick-Off
Leader?
A: Kick-Off Leaders will have a chance to obtain valuable
leadership experience through this short-term opportunity! Leaders
will also have the opportunity to network with a diverse group of
fellow students, faculty, staff, and administrators. Leaders living
on campus in Fall 2010 will be able to move in to their residence
hall room prior to Kick-Off Leader training. Finally, Kick-Off
Leaders will receive $50 in Bison Bucks, a T-shirt, meals during
training and New Student Move-In and much more!! For a complete
list of benefits, see the application packet (available Spring
2010).
Q: What do Kick-Off Leaders DO?
A: Kick-Off Leaders will be responsible for helping to gather and
lead new students through Welcome Week activities, such as Club
NDSU, the President's Welcome, and other great events! Leaders will
serve as friendly role-models for all students and will be
available to answer questions about NDSU campus services,
facilities and activities. For a complete list of Kick-Off Leader
responsibilities, see the application packet (available Spring
2010).
Q: What do I need to know about NDSU to become a
Kick-Off Leader?
A: We are happy to provide the training you will need to answer
questions asked by incoming students or to know where to direct
them to get the answers they need. During training you'll learn how
to answer questions about NDSU, the community, activities on and
off campus, and you'll get to know a great group of fellow
leaders!
Q: Can I be a Kick-Off Leader if I am an RA, an I-CORE
member or if I am a member of an athletic team that competes in the
fall?
A: Unfortunately, the requirements of the position prevent I-CORE
members and residence life staff members from participating as
Kick-Off Leaders. However, RAs will be working with Kick-Off
Leaders to assist in getting students to events. Student athletes
participating in fall sports are encouraged to check the
application packet for the required dates and events and then ask
their coach if this would conflict with their practice or
competition schedule. Please apply if you are able to meet the
requirements!
Q: What are the qualifications to become a Kick-Off
Leader?
A: To become a Kick-Off Leader, you must be enrolled as a full-time
student for the following Fall semester and have a minimum
cumulative GPA of 2.2. Leaders must be able to exercise good
judgment and demonstrate enthusiasm and excellent communication
skills.
Q: How do I apply to become a Kick-Off
Leader?
A: To apply, first complete the application (available Spring 2010)
and turn it in to Ceres 211 by the due date during Spring semester.
Sign up for a group interview time. Attend your interview.
Notifications will be sent out to all applicants in late March
